On Frontlines of Freedom, General Sheikh Jaafar — a longtime commander of Kurdish Peshmerga forces and now Vice President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq — joined the program to discuss the years he spent fighting not just al Qaeda but also the armies and agents of Saddam Hussein. He described years of guerrilla operations against larger enemies, including the years of Anfal, Saddam’s Kurdish genocide, which was capped by the gassing of the Kurdish town of Halabja. Called back to duty to fight ISIS, he led Kurdish forces in the Battle of Mosul, the largest ground battle since World War II. Gen.
